TRACK-TEXTM FABRIC GUIDE
Design Flexibility
DFB’s Track-TexTM can be installed as individual panels or as one large panel by sewing together many individual fabric widths. Both applications take advantage of the almost infinite detail possibilities Track-TexTM offers. Horizontal, vertical or diagonal panels can be combined with reveals of wood, laminate, fabric or paint. For total design unity, use Track-TexTM on ceilings. Track-TexTM ceilings are engineered to integrate with all existing or new fixtures.
Largest Fabric Selection
The non-slip feature of the Track-TexTM Power Lock Jaws permits the largest selection of fabrics for wall upholstery. For acoustical requirements, the fabric should be acoustically transparent. For display purposes the fabric should be self-healing. Sheers or light fabrics need to be tricot backed or lined, at extra cost. Paperbacked or very heavy fabrics cannot be used. Consult your Track-TexTM representative about the appropriateness of selected fabrics. All fabrics are tested prior to contract submittal. Once tested and approved, fabrics are guaranteed not to sag or lose tension.
Unlimited Design Options
Track-TexTM conforms to all surfaces, concave or convex, as high and as wide as desired. Track-TexTM lets you choose radius, square or beveled edges, using multiple butt panels or large panels with sewn seams. Track-TexTM can be applied around windows, doors, switches, receptacles and other wall fixtures. All are integrated for a smooth finish. Archways are followed with exacting precision. Subsurface and pre-existing conditions require little or no finishing. Basic panel thickness is ½ in. but is also available in any thickness greater than ½ in. Filling can be Dacron polyester, fiberglass, tackable MicoreCV230 or wood grounds—singly or in combination—all fire retardant and concealed beneath the fabric. The fabric is removable and replaceable for easy maintenance.
Flame Treatment
Fabrics which are not inherently flame retardant should be pretreated with a flame-retardant finish in accordance with the fire codes and standards that are applicable to your area. Most fabrics can be flame treated, but if you have any questions about the appropriateness of processing, contact your fabric representative. For maximum protection and economy, have fabrics treated with a soil repellent at the same time they are flame treated.
Soil Repellent
Pre-treatment with good-quality soil repellent keeps wall upholstery looking better longer and should not affect fabric color or strength. This treatment prevents oil, grease or water-borne stains from permanently damaging fabric.
FABRIC SELECTION FOR SYSTEMS
Selecting the right fabric is as important as selecting the right system. The fabric content and construction will determine the performance level under a stretch application. The two major reason fabrics sag are being hydrophilic taking on moisture, and memory in retaining stretched. Fabrics that are hydrophobic polyesters and some synthetics are perfect for a panel system.
Track-Tex HT
Track-Tex ht in conjunction with a light acrylic backing may prevent sagging with problematic hydrophilic fabrics such a silk, rayon and viscose that have a tendency to take on moisture and sag. Fabrics that are light weight or light in color that telegraph the substrate will require a lining. Flame proofing and soil relents treatments have a tendency to change the hand of the fabric, so if they are required a sample should be generated before specifying. It is optimal to contact your account executive to have your selection vetted and make a sample panel.
Panel-Tex & Track-Tex TS
Have a slightly smaller spectrum of selection than Track-Tex ht. These systems generate less stretch therefore need fabrics that are more stable hydrophobic fabric that’s not affected by moisture. Some fabrics can still be acrylic backed, adding to the selection possibilities. Polyester, and poly-blends, wools, cottons and all panel fabrics developed for this purpose should be considered first. Flame proofing and soil relents treatments have a tendency to change the hand of the fabric, so if they are required a sample should be generated before specifying. It is optimal to contact your account executive to have your selection vetted and make a sample panel
Fabric Replacement
Track-Tex HT & TS are designed for easy removal and replacement of the fabric while keeping the track and substrate intact minimizing office disruptions. Panel-Tex depends of the installation method, type of panel construction, and substrate used. Changing the fabric might require panels coming back to the shop.
COM Fabrics
There is a large selection of fabric by many qualified companies so a majority of our jobs are COM. These companies offer upholstery, and drapery lines as well that look like they are a possibility for wall upholstery but are not. Fabrics with patterns, type of construction, finish and backings applied, under a stretch application may not hold up. Please consult your account executive at DFB.
