DFB fabricates Roman Shades flat with horizontal bars and double fold roman shades which are available unlined, lined, blackout lined and interlined.
How do I select between the various styles?
What makes roman shades so unique is that they can be traditional or contemporary depending on the fabric selected and the detailing.
Flat Roman Shades have horizontal seams and are sewn between 8”-12” on center to give stability to the construction. Each horizontal seam contains a ⅛” rod this rod can either face the front or back of the shade. Shades can be constructed without the seam for a more monolithic look. Adding an extra pleat at the bottom will give a more traditional look.
Double Roman Shades give a traditional appearance with overlapping folds. With fixed valances Double Romans use twice the amount of fabric.
How do I select a lining?
Lining is selected based on the requirements of the project. Options are blackout, unlined and cotton translucent. It is important that you evaluate the lining and fabrics together by holding them up to light. Interlining can be used to add dimension to the shade or for acoustic reasons.
How do I select hardware?
You will need to select either brass or stainless steel guide wire, grommets and sill plate. You will also need to select the color of the head rail and wooden tassels. Shades can have a cord lift in a coordinated color, or a continuous bead chain that is connected to a take-up lift system or they can be motorized.
What qualities do I need to look for in fabric?
All fabrics are constructed differently depending if they take on moisture, have memory or will sag but also their ability to fold for the application. Always have a sample made to see what you are getting. Have a conversation with your fabric representative to make sure they will stand behind the application.
