Acoustical Roller Shade Fabric

Where sound and visual privacy is important, we have a lightweight fabric that blocks both sound and light from adjoining hallways or spaces. Absorben is a new fabric from DFB that we like to use where interior privacy is a concern. It has a horizontal linear weave that features a 1% openness to allow some light in, but it doesn’t allow people to see in. The fabric is also engineered to diffuse and absorb sound at the same time, giving it a Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC) of 0.51–twice the performance when compared to standard window fabrics.

Better still, this dual-function fabric is constructed of Trevira CS Polyester, a surprisingly lightweight material given how well it does its job. It is fire-rated at NFPA701, so it is an excellent choice for commercial applications.

We like to combine Absorben with a concealed motor system that hides the fabric in the ceiling above the glass enclosure for a very clean look. We install a motorized pocket in the ceiling that stores the shade and hides all of the components. The shade will fall smoothly and silently when it is needed with the click of a button.

This shade and motor kit can be integrated into any existing automation system using either line-voltage or low-voltage motors. Of course, it is also available in a free-standing configuration as well.
