SECTION 12500 SHADE (ATHEY® SHADE SYSTEM)

PART 1--GENERAL
  1. SCOPE OF WORK
    1. Supply all labor, hardware, materials, and equipment for a complete installation of this section.
  2. SUBMITTALS
    1. Shop Drawings: Submit shop drawings, indicating all materials, including dimensional sizes and thicknesses, in relation to abutting construction and installation details.
    2. Samples,: Submit 12 x 12-in. samples of the specified shade(s).
    3. Product Information: Submit specifications and product literature.
    4. References: Supply no less than three (3) jobs of a similar scope with contact names and phone numbers.
  3. PRODUCT DELIVERY
    1. Each shade shall be packed in its own cardboard box.
    2. Each shade shall be labeled denoting room number, rotation number, size, and fabric style.
    3. Damaged shade(s) shall be replaced with a new one(s) at no expense to the owner.
  4. JOB CONDITIONS
    1. Roof must be completed, and windows and frames must be installed and glazed.
    2. Wetwork including sheetrock, spackling, taping and paint shall be completed and dry.
    PART 2--Product: Athey Shades
    1. MANUFACTURER
      1. General: Provided an operable shade unit as produced by one manufacturer. Products specified herein by proprietary designation are as manufactured by DFB Sales Inc., telephone (718) 729-8310, and establish the quality standards required. Equivalent products of other manufacturers will be considered provided they meet those established standards and comply with the contract documents.
    2. MODELS
      1. Model 1: Single pull. Fabricated shade shall have a pleat size of 1 5/8 in. Pleats shall be stitched with Perma Spun T-40 thread at 15 stitches per inch. Pleat ends shall be sealed with a non-visible bonding agent to prevent the pleat ends and the thread from unraveling. Shade shall have one operating cord to stack the shade at the ceiling when pulled. Model 1 is also available clutch operated.
      2. Model 2: Double pull, stack at ceiling or sill. Same construction as Model 1 with the addition of a second operating cord to permit the shade's operation in bottom-to-top or top-to-bottom configurations.
      3. Model 3: Double pull, stack at ceiling or sill. Model 3 is the same as Model 2 with the addition of guide wires at each side of the shade and grommets inserted into every fifth (5th) pleat. The guide wires shall enable the shade to be installed at an incline of up to 20 degrees from vertical. Guide wires shall be bronze or stainless steel. Wires shall be attached to the sill and into an adjustment bushing in the headrail, thereby creating an adjustable tension system.
      4. Model 4: Skylight applications, single pull, similar to Model 1. Skylight shades shall be used whenever the incline angle is greater than 20 degrees from vertical. Support wires shall be attached to the back of the shade every 24 in., on the average. The same wires shall be utilized as in Model 3.
    3. SHADECLOTHS
      1. Sol-R-Control shadecloth: Series 1000, 2000 and 3000. Available in a range of opennesses and colors.
      2. Canvas: Fine combed Indian cotton woven in a herringbone twill pattern, 94 x 45 thread count, available in white or natural.
      3. All C.O.M. fabrics shall be backed with a standard Athey Shade backing material. Fabric shall be sewn, not laminated, to the backing material.
        1. Group 1. White or natural canvas, depending on the color of the C.O.M. material.
        2. Group 2. Woven, translucent, lightweight polyester, white color.
        3. Group 3. Cotton-backed blackout Mylar, white color.
        4. Group 4. Transparent 3-mil. Mylar.
    4. HARDWARE
      1. Headrail shall be 1 1/2 in x 3/4 in. extruded aluminum with integral channels to receive the attachment splines of the shade and the valance.
      2. Cord lock shall be a crash proof, self-aligning locking device that has a built-in cord separation system to keep the cords in-line and tangle-free. The cord lock shall be spring loaded to keep the cord forward of the shade.
      3. Hem/Hembar: 3/4 in x 3/16 fabric hem pocket, located at the bottom of the shade on Model 1 and at the top and bottom on Model 2.
      4. Valance: Model 1 shades shall be furnished with a self-lined 3-in.-deep valance utilizing the same fabric as that of the shade. Valance is optional on Models 2 and 3 but is not available on Model 4.
      5. Wire Guides (Models 3 and 4 only): Wire guides shall be .065-in.-diamter phosphor bronze or .050-in.-diamter stainless steel wire.
      6. Sill Plates shall be anodized aluminum in natural aluminum or brass and furnished with nickel-plated or brass #6 screws.
      7. Brass or Chrome Cleats (optional): Button cleats can be installed in lieu of a cord lock.
      8. Pulleys shall be nylon running on plated-steel shafts.
    5. INSTALLATIONS
      1. Fastening: Shade shall be mounted with a minimum of two (2) screws. Maximum distance between the mounting screws shall be 30 in.
      2. Installers: They shall have no less than three (3) years experience in shade installations.
      3. Clean Up: All debris shall be removed from the building as related to the trade and disposed of legally. Job site shall be left clean and orderly.
      4. Damages: damaged surfaces and finishes resulting from a careless installation shall be repaired at no cost to the owner.
      5. Inspection: Shades shall be inspected by the architect before the installer leaves the job site.
    6. WARRANTY
      1. A written warranty agreeing to repair or replace hardware or fabric due to faulty material, workmanship or installation for a period of one (1) year.

    PART 3--Execution
    1. PROJECT CONDITIONS
      1. Inspection: The job site shall be inspected at least seven (7) days prior to the installation. Installation will not convene until all job conditions are suitable to the installation of the shades(s).
      2. Schedule: Installation shall be coordinated with the job-schedule outlined and with other trades.
      3. Measurements shall be field certified.
