12500 SHADE (AUSTRIAN SHADES)
PART 1--GENERAL
- DESCRIPTION
- General:
Provide operable shades in accordance with this document and plans.
- Related work
specified elsewhere.
- Rough
carpentry for wood blocking and support grounds.
- Miscellaneous
metal for framing and reinforcing.
- Optional:
Electrical power requirements and controls for motorized shades.
- QUALITY ASSURANCE
- Provide operable
shades from a firm that has specialized in the fabrication and
installation of such work for at least five (5) years in projects
of similar size and scope.
- Provide operable
shades as complete units produced by a single manufacturer, including
the necessary mounting brackets, hardware, fittings, fastenings,
and installation.
- Installation
shall be performed by an authorized manufacturer's representative
experienced in the installation and maintenance of such assemblies.
- STANDARDS
- Except as
modified by governing codes and contract documents, comply with
applicable provisions and recommendations of the following:
- When
required by fire codes, fabrics shall be flame resistant in
accordance with NFPA-701 test requirements.
- Flameproofing
shall leave the fabric cleanable, dimensionally stable, and
resistant to UV deterioration.
- Optional:
All electrical components and systems shall be listed by the
Underwriters Laboratories (), and all wiring shall be performed
to National Electric Code (N.E.C.) standards.
- SUBMITTALS
- Manufacturer's
Data: Submit specifications and operating and installation instructions
for shades.
- Shop Drawings:
Submit drawings for shades, including dimensioned plans seaming
instructions, details, connections, anchorages, and the relation
to adjacent construction.
- Samples:
Submit 24 x 24-in. samples of fabrics(s) as specified and operable
hardware with cut sheets.
- Maintenance
Instructions: Submit manufacturer's printed instructions for cleaning
and maintenance of the products.
- Optional:
Submit wiring diagrams detailing the wiring for motorized operation,
relays, low-voltage interfaces, and switch locations.
- PRODUCT DELIVERY,
STORAGE AND HANDLING
- Subcontractor
shall not deliver the shades until room(s) containing shades are
painted and ready for shade installation. Shades and components
shall be protected from damage during delivery and installation.
- WARRANTY
- A written
warranty agreeing to repair or replace hardware or fabric due
to faulty material, workmanship or installation for a period of
one (1) year.
PART 2--Product:
Austrian Shades
- MANUFACTURER
- General:
Provided an operable shade system as produced by one manufacturer.
Products specified herein by proprietary designation are as manufactured
by DFB Sales Inc., telephone (718) 729-8310, and establish the
quality standards required. Equivalent products of other manufacturers
will be considered provided they meet those established standards
and comply with the contract documents.
- FABRICATION
Specifications for Austrian Shades consist of the following:
- Austrian
shades shall be fabricated with even swoops in a fullness and
width as outlined below.
- 5/8-in. shirring
tape with rings shall be sewn to the back of the fabric. Spacing
between the shirring tapes shall not exceed 16 in. on center and
be secured to the fabric with a single-needle sewing machine.
- Fullness
shall be 2 or 2 1/2 times the vertical drop with an estimated
20% for the width, so that the shade will not hourglass.
- Side hems
shall be single-turned 3/4 in. wide, consist of two layers of
fabric, and be sewn to and cover the shirring tape. All vertical
seams shall fall on the shirring tape.
- Bottom hems
shall be double-turned 1 1/2 in., consisting of three layers of
fabric. An aluminum hembar, equal to the width of the shade and
covered in fabric, shall be attached to the bottom of the shade
and not be visible from the front.
- Hardware:
Headrail shall be 1 1/2 x 3/4 in. extruded aluminum, with an integral
channel to receive the attachment spline from the shade. The cord
lock shall be integrated into the headrail which is the crash-proof
and self-aligning style #101 manufactured by DFB Sales, Inc. Optional
motorized headrail shall be 2 1/4 x 2 1/4 in. with an integrated
motor and lift system style #201 manufactured by DFB Sales, Inc.

PART 3--Execution
- EXAMINATION
- Examine substrates,
adjoining construction and conditions under which the work is
to be installed. The work shall not proceed until unsatisfactory
conditions have been corrected.
- PREPARATION
- Install shades
with hardware in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations.
- Hang shades
plumb and square, running up and down. set appropriate stops,
and leave in the open position.
- Shades shall
be free of creases and wrinkles after hanging and shall be steamed
and dressed down as required.
- PROTECTION
Protect shades from soiling or damage after hanging.
