SECTION 12500 SHADE (FESTOON [A] WITH JABOTS [B])

PART 1--GENERAL
  1. DESCRIPTION
    1. General: Provide top treatment in accordance with this document and plans.
    2. Related work specified elsewhere.
      1. Rough carpentry for wood blocking and support grounds.
      2. Miscellaneous metal for framing and reinforcing.
  2. QUALITY ASSURANCE
    1. Provide top treatment from a firm that has specialized in the fabrication and installation of such work for at least five (5) years in projects of similar size and scope.
    2. Provide top treatment as complete units produced by a single manufacturer, including the necessary mounting brackets, hardware, fittings, fastenings, and installation.
    3. Installation shall be performed by an authorized manufacturer's representative experienced in the installation and maintenance of such assemblies.
  3. STANDARDS
    1. Except as modified by governing codes and contract documents, comply with applicable provisions and recommendations of the following:
      1. When required by fire codes, fabrics shall be flame resistant in accordance with NFPA-701 test requirements.
      2. Flameproofing shall leave the fabric cleanable, dimensionally stable, and resistant to U.V. deterioration.
  4. SUBMITTALS
    1. Shop Drawings: Submit drawings for top treatment, including dimensioned plans, seaming instructions, details, connections, anchorages, and the relation to adjacent construction.
    2. Samples: Submit 24 x 24-in. samples of fabrics(s) as specified with cut sheets.
    3. Maintenance instructions: Submit manufacturer's printed instructions for cleaning and maintenance of the products.
  5. PRODUCT DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING
    1. Subcontractor shall not deliver the top treatment until room(s) containing the top treatment are painted and ready for installation. The top treatment and components shall be protected from damage during delivery and installation.
  6. WARRANTY
    1. A written warranty agreeing to repair or replace hardware or fabric due to faulty material, workmanship or installation for a period of one (1) year.
PART 2--Product: Festoon with Jabots
  1. MANUFACTURER
    1. General: Provided a top treatment as produced by one manufacturer. Products specified herein by proprietary designation are as manufactured by DFB Sales, Inc., telephone (718) 729-8310, and establish the quality standards required. Equivalent products of other manufacturers will be considered provided they meet those established standards and comply with the contract documents.
  2. FABRICATION
    Specifications for festoon with jabots consist of the following:
    1. Festoons (A) shall be fabricated with even, soft, graduated folds in single or multiple units as per design drawing no.___________. Festoons shall be unlined, lined and/or interlined. Vertical fullness shall be _________%. If unlined, the bottom hem shall be 2 in. deep, double-turned. If lined, the lining shall extend to the leading edge of the hem. The top edge shall be straight and finished with a 1-in. binding made from the face fabric. The festoon shall be tacked or stapled to a fabric-covered wood dustboard. Fastenings shall not be visible when completed.
    2. Jabots (B) shall be fabricated with two or three even vertical, pleated folds. The bottom of which shall be sewn on an angle creating a cascading effect.
      1. A design template with curved top and bottom edges shall be used to maintain a uniform and aesthetically pleasing appearance. This template shall be used to determine the size of the fabric panel and be reversed on a paired panel in order to create a mirror image.
      2. When completed, the top edge shall be straight and finished with a 1-in. binding made from the face fabric. The jabot shall be attached to a wooden dustboard in front of and on top of the festoon, swag, or draped valance that it accompanies.
    3. Decorative fringe-trimming options:
      1. Trim heading shall be sewn onto the bottom edge with the tassels or fringe hanging below.
      2. Trim heading shall be concealed as it is sewn into the false bottom hem.
    4. Tape or braided trimming:
      1. Trimming shall be applied to the bottom edge or set back from the edge as may be appropriate to the design.
      2. Trimming shall be stitched to both edges.
    5. For festoons wider than the fabric width, full widths of the fabric must be centered on the festoon with equal widths of fabric added to each side. No center seams are allowed.
    6. Hardware: A 3/4 in.-thick fabric-covered wood board of an appropriate depth to accommodate the under treatment without interference.

PART 3--Execution
  1. EXAMINATION
    1. Examine substrates, adjoining construction and conditions under which the work is to be installed. The work shall not proceed until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.
  2. PREPARATION
    1. Install festoons with jabots and hardware in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations.
    2. Festoons with jabots shall be free of creases and wrinkles after hanging and shall be steamed and dressed down as required.
  3. PROTECTION: Protect all finished work from soiling or damage after hanging.
