12500 SHADE (CONTRACT DFB SOL-R-SHADE, CHAIN-OPERATED)
PART 1--GENERAL
- SCOPE OF WORK
- Supply all
labor, hardware, materials, and equipment for a complete installation
of this section.
- SUBMITTALS
- General:
Submit procedures and provisions.
- Shop Drawings:
Submit shop drawings, indicating all materials, including dimensions,
in relation to abutting construction and installation details.
- Samples:
Submit a full-sized mockup of the specified type of shade(s).
- Product Information:
Submit specifications and product literature.
- References:
Supply no less than three (3) jobs of similar scope, with contacts
and phone numbers.
- STANDARDS
- Except as
modified by governing codes and contract documents, comply with
applicable provisions and recommendations of the following:
- Shade
material shall be flame resistant in accordance with NFPA-701
test requirements, washable, dimensionally stable and resistant
to ultraviolet deterioration.
- Certification
for flame resistance shall be provided with a written certificate
from an independent testing laboratory.
- PRODUCT DELIVERY
- Each shade
shall be protected in its own cardboard box.
- Each shade
shall be labeled denoting room number, rotation number, size and
shadecloth style.
- Damaged shades
shall be replaced with new ones, at no expense to the owner.
- JOB SITE CONDITIONS:
- Windows and
frames must be installed and glazed.
- Wet work
including sheetrock, spackling, tapping, and paint shall be completed
and dry.
PART 2--PRODUCT
- MANUFACTURER
- General:
Provided an operable shade unit as produced by one manufacturer.
Products ;specified herein by proprietary designation are as manufactured
by DFB Sales, Inc., telephone (718) 729-8310, and establish the
quality standards required. Equivalent products of other manufacturers
will be considered provided they meet those established standards
and comply with the contract documents.
- Adjustment-free
system shall be provided that is controlled by a ball chain (90
lb. test). The clutch system shall be comprised of multi-banded
steel springs that create the pressure necessary to keep the shade
in the desired position. The clutch shall develop no more than
1/2 lb. drag, for easy lift.
- Brackets:
They shall be made from 16-gauge galvanized steel capable of being
mounted in any position. The idle-end bracket shall have a means
of leveling the shade after installation; the set screw adjustment
shall provide infinite leveling degrees. Bracket functions as
a support for the fascia.
- Shade Mounting
System: Shade shall be mounted to tube by means of high cure double
face tape. Tube shall be 1 3/8 in O.D. 15 GA rolled steel.
Fabric shall make 1 1/2 revolutions abound tube in full down position.
- Hem/Hembar:
The hembar shall be extruded aluminum weighting 1/4 lb. per linear
foot and sit behind two thicknesses of shadecloth. The hem shall
be triple thick with an electronically welded seam.
- Fascia (optional):
A component feature that, if required, shall be .040-in-thick
extruded aluminum.
- Side/Sill
Channels (optional): A component feature produced in .065-in-thick
extruded aluminum. The two-piece channel design shall eliminate
visible fasteners.
- Finishes:
Aluminum components, fascias, side channels, and sill channels
are available in standard colors: White, Bronze or Anodized Aluminum.
Bracket finsihes are available in White, Brown or Gray. Painted
finishes on aluminum components are baked enamel. Custom colors
(optional) can be submitted.
- Ceiling Pockets
(optional): They shall be made of .050-in-thick extruded aluminum
in a style chosen for the job. Outside dimensions are 3 1/4 in.
square.
- BLACKOUT SHADE
SYSTEM
- All of the
above specifications in Section 2.1 are valid with the addition
of:
- Side
and sill channels shall be furnished with light-blocking inserts.
- The headbox
shall be fitted with end caps and bottom closure (with light-block
inserts). The entire assembly shall provide 100 percent outside
light omission.
- SOL-R-SHADE
SHADECLOTH PROGRAM
- Performance:
The shadecloth shall hang flat without deflection or distortion.
The edges of the shadeband shall be cut square to insure true
tracking of the shadeband and cut clean so that the core yarn
is not exposed.
- Flame Retardance:
The shadecloth shall pass the California Flame Text Title 19,
Section 1273.3, medium-scale test for interior fabric and shall
pass the NFPA Flame Test.

PART 3--EXECUTION
- PROJECT CONDITIONS
- Inspection:
The job site is to be available for inspection seven (7) days
prior to the installation. Installation shall not commence until
all job conditions are suitable.
- Schedule:
the installation shall be coordinated with the job-schedule outline
and other trades.
- Measurements:
All measurements shall be field verified.
- INSTALLATIONS
- Fastening:
The shade shall be installed according to manufacturer's instructions.
Each bracket shall receive two (2) screws. The shade shall be
set into place and leveled via a leveling screw. The shade shall
pass final inspection tests.
- Installers:
Installers shall have no less than three (3) years experience
with shade installations.
- Cleanup:
All debris related to the trade shall be removed from the building
and disposed of legally. The job site shall be left clean and
orderly.
- Damages:
Damaged surfaces and finishes resulting from a careless installation
shall be repaired at no cost to the owner.
