SECTION 12500 SHADE (ARCHITECTURAL DFB SOL-R-SHADE SYSTEM, MOTORIZED)

PART 1--GENERAL
  1. SCOPE OF WORK
    1. Supply all labor, hardware, materials, and equipment for a complete installation of this section.
  2. SUBMITTALS
    1. General: Submit procedures and provisions.
    2. Shop Drawings: Submit shop drawings, indicating all materials, including dimensions, in relation to abutting construction and installation details.
    3. Samples: Submit a full-sized mockup of the specified type of shade(s).
    4. Product Information: Submit specifications and product literature.
    5. References: Supply no less than three (3) jobs of similar scope, with contacts and phone numbers.
  3. STANDARDS
    1. Except as modified by governing codes and contract documents, comply with applicable provisions and recommendations of the following:
      1. Shade material shall be flame resistant in accordance with NFPA-701 test requirements, washable, dimensionally stable and resistant to ultraviolet deterioration.
      2. Certification for flame resistance shall be provided with a written certificate from an independent testing laboratory.
  4. PRODUCT DELIVERY
    1. Each shade shall be protected in its own cardboard box.
    2. Each shade shall be labeled denoting room number, rotation number, size and shadecloth style.
    3. Damaged shades shall be replaced with new ones, at no expense to the owner.
  5. JOB SITE CONDITIONS:
    1. Windows and frames must be installed and glazed.
    2. Wet work including sheetrock, spackling, tapping, and paint shall be completed and dry.

PART 2--PRODUCT
  1. MANUFACTURER
    1. General: Provided an operable shade unit as produced by one manufacturer. Products specified herein by proprietary designation are as manufactured by DFB Sales, Inc., telephone (718) 729-8310, and establish the quality standards required. Equivalent products of other manufacturers will be considered provided they meet those established standards and comply with the contract documents.
    2. Limit Switches: Shall be externally adjusted and fully accessible and not able to be disrupted by the action of the shade tube. Internal limits shall determine the full-up and full-down positions of the shade.
    3. Shade Mounting: The shade tube shall be 2 1/4 in. O.D. extruded aluminum with .080 wall thickness, having not more than .010-in. deflection over 12 ft. for a 10-ft-high shade. The shade shall be mounted to the tube by means of high cure double face tape. Fabric shall make 1 1/2 revolutions around tube in full down position. Optional 3 1/2-in. diameter tube with a max. length of 21 ft.
    4. Mounting Brackets: Shall be made of 1/8-in.-thick galvanized steel. Motor-end bracket shall have a locking mechanism for holding the motor. Idle-end bracket shall have a nylon swivel ball to insure non-binding rotation.
    5. Center Support: Shall have extruded-aluminum main housing with two (2) height-adjustment screws to prevent vibration and a 3/8-in. U.H.M.W. support bushing. Connection between shades shall be a 1/2-in. threaded steel drive shaft. Maximum space between shades shall be 3/4 in.
    6. Hem/Hembar: The hembar shall be extruded aluminum weighting 1/4 lb. per linear foot and sit behind two thicknesses of shadecloth. The hem shall be triple thick with an electronically welded seam.
    7. Fascia (optional): A component feature that, if required, shall be .040-in-thick extruded aluminum.
    8. Finishes: Aluminum components, fascias, side channels, and sill channels area available in standard colors: White Enamel, Bronze or Anodized Aluminum. Bracket finishes are available in White, Brown or Gray Enamel. Painted finishes on aluminum components are baked enamel. Custom colors (optional) can be submitted.
    9. Ceiling Pockets (optional): They shall be made of .050-in-thick extruded aluminum in a shape chosen for the job. Outside dimensions are 4 1/2 in. square.
  2. BLACKOUT SHADE SYSTEM
    1. All of the above specifications in Section 2.1 are valid with the addition of:
      1. Interlocking dual-piece side and sill channels shall be furnished with light-blocking inserts.
      2. The headbox shall be fitted with end caps and bottom closure (with light-block inserts). The entire assembly shall provide 100% outside light omission.
  3. SOL-R-SHADE SHADECLOTH PROGRAM
    1. Performance: The shadecloth shall hang flat without deflection or distortion. The edges of the shadeband shall be cut square to insure true tracking of the shadeband and cut clean so that the core yarn is not exposed.
    2. Flame Retardance: The shadecloth shall pass the California Flame Text Title 19, Section 1273.3, medium-scale test for interior fabric and shall pass the NFPA Flame Test.
    3. Sol-R-Control Shadecloth
           1000 Series (22% openness factor).
           2000 Series (5% openness factor).
           2500 Series (5% openness factor).
           3000 Series (11% openness factor).
           4000 Series (5% openness factor).
           4100 Series (10% openness factor).
           4400 Series (3% openness factor).
           5000 Series (0% openness factor).
           6000 Series (translucent Sol-R-Film).
           7000 Series (6% openness factor).

           7600 Series (1% openness factor).
           9003 Series (1% openness factor).
           9500 Series (0% openness factor).

PART 3--EXECUTION
  1. PROJECT CONDITIONS
    1. Inspection: The job site is to be available for inspection seven (7) days prior to the installation. Installation shall not commence until all job conditions are suitable.
    2. Schedule: The installation shall be coordinated with the job-schedule outline and other trades.
    3. Measurements: All measurements shall be field verified.
  2. INSTALLATIONS
    1. Fastening: The shade shall be installed according to manufacturer's instructions. Each bracket shall receive two (2) screws. The shade shall be set into place and leveled via a leveling screw. The shade shall pass final inspection tests.
    2. Installers: Installers shall have no less than three (3) years experience with shade installations.
    3. Cleanup: All debris related to the trade shall be removed from the building and disposed of legally. The job site shall be left clean and orderly.
    4. Damages: Damaged surfaces and finishes resulting from a careless installation shall be Repaired at no cost to the owner.
